Rotherly is a Girls’ Boarding House for the Westgate School in Winchester. Rotherly is situated in a pleasant residential area of Winchester and is within easy reach of both the railway station and city centre. The Westgate is a maintained school, so Rotherly House has the great advantage of charging fees for boarding only. This means that tuition is free at a school that is high achieving and has excellent OFSTED reports. There is a boarding house for boys age 11 – 16 located within a mile at Kings School. Peter Symonds 6th Form College is less than a mile from Rotherly. Girls can apply to board at Peter Symonds after year 11 or ask to remain at Rotherly, whilst completing 6th form education.

Rotherly is a charming Victorian house set within its own spacious grounds. It has been designed to make boarding life as pleasant and attractive as possible. We aim to provide a safe, secure, warm and friendly environment that the girls can consider their term-time home. As a small boarding house catering for 30-40 girls, we are able to offer a happy family atmosphere where individual needs are taken seriously.

The boarders at Rotherly come from diverse backgrounds. In many cases their parents are mobile in their work or living overseas. All boarders need a guardian in the UK as they will need to vacate the House during 6 exeat weekends that take place in addition to school holidays each academic year. Boarding can be full time or weekly. At Rotherly weekly boarding involves leaving on a Friday evening and returning to Rotherly on a Sunday evening or Monday morning.

Entry is by application and a visit, if possible. There are no tests or formal interviews. At Rotherly we are happy to facilitate all pupils in following the religion or faith of their choice. Every effort will be made to find an appropriate and welcoming place of worship within the area suitable to the girl’s individual needs.
