Arts Faculty
The Arts Faculty celebrates and showcases the talents of our pupils. By providing a platform for pupils to display their creativity and talent, the Faculty plays a vital role in promoting The Westgate School's core values and sharing its Ethos within the wider community.
The Westgate School caters for a wide range of interests within Art, Drama and Music. These are taught as separate subjects in years 7, 8 and 9, and are also popular GCSE options. We are extending the range of courses available and we now offer our 14-16 year-olds both GCSE and BTEC Performing Arts Courses.
The Faculty organises a range of educational visits, extra-curricular clubs and bands, coursework clinics and arts projects. These combine to support and encourage the artistic and the musical aspirations of our pupils.
Each year the Arts Faculty work together to mount a major school production. During the year there will also be a number of smaller plays, lunchtime presentations, evening concerts and arts showcases presented. Often these events offer pupils the chance to combine skills in the arts (eg singing and acting) or specialise in one area (e.g. foyer design). The GCSE Arts Evening links with the Technology Faculty and provides a combination of Textiles & Art display work, Drama extracts and Musical items. This heady mix of different art forms makes the Arts Evening a guaranteed sell-out event.
Arts Subjects (GCSE & BTEC Performing Arts) are popular and respected courses at Key Stage 4. In recent years GCSE results in Art, Drama & Music have been consistently impressive. In 2007 our first cohort of BTEC Performing Arts achieved outstanding results.
