Art

- Dedicated, airy art rooms provide an environment conducive to quality work
The Art department is located on the top floor with pleasing views overlooking Winchester. There are three main teaching rooms with ICT links and a smaller resource room. There are currently four teachers, two being part-time, we work together to use a full range of teaching styles. We are supported by a full time technician.
The department offers a wide range of media which includes drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking. The areas of study are presented in a manner which allows pupils of all abilities to realize their potential and develop their skills. The practical work is strongly supported and enhanced by the comprehensive art library and internet connections within the department.
In Years 7-9 pupils are organised in mixed ability groups of no more than 20. The subject is a very popular choice in Years 10 and 11, with about 25% of pupils choosing to continue with us.
A good number of pupils go on to take A level Art or higher degree courses and indeed on to foundation and specialty art courses successfully. We are a designated training subject and have successfully supported the training of many new teachers over recent years.
