Design and Technology

- Food Technology is one of the thriving and stimulating courses offered
Design and Technology involves developing new products – activities include both designing and making. Pupils work with a variety of materials developing practical skills.
Through their Design and Technology lessons pupils will develop skills in:
- Research
- Practical work - using a variety of materials and equipment
- Decision making
- Planning and organisation
- Independent thinking
- Applying knowledge - from Design Technology and many other subjects to justify decisions
They will acquire knowledge of traditional and ‘Smart’ or Modern materials. They will carry out a range of processes for cutting, shaping, combining, joining and finishing products. Design and Technology helps pupils to keep pace with technological change for example by using CAD CAM (Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing systems).
All pupils at The Westgate School study Design and Technology and will work on projects in:
- Food Technology
- Graphic Products
- Textiles
- Resistant Materials
- Systems and Control
