STEM club
We run a flourishing science, technology, engineering and mathematics programme where learners have extended opportunities to talk with practising scientists and engineers and work on topical issues.
Visits from the European Space Agency, working with local universities and Scientist in residence opportunities have all led to a high uptake of post-16 science.
A great day out at INTECH!
Today a group of 19 pupils from Years 7,8 and 9 have been to INTECH for a STEM event.
To start each pupil visited four different stalls to find out about different STEM related careers. Some of the ones we visited were NDS ("They were really good, showing us 3D T.V's that work!" - Callum Leamon), IBM ( "They were really cool because we got to play on games!" Bailey Englefield and Daniel Smith), The Mildmay Vets (" It was interesting because they showed us animals that had injuries and that they had helped" Megan Wild)
Then before lunch we got to see a show in the Planetarium. The show was all about becoming an astronomer. (" I enjoyed watching the planetarium because we didnt have to wear 3D glasses"- Jamie Kin)
After a lovely lunch we then split into four teams and took part in "The Great Gumball Ramp Challenge" run by ICE ( Institution of Civil Engineers). All four teams did really well and 'Afro, Twins and Court-Lee' came 5th, only five points behind the winners!! So close!!
All in all a very inspiring day, highlighting the opportunities within the STEM subjects.
