The Role of the Tutor
We know that doing the best for our pupils requires a team approach. We therefore place great importance on encouraging a positive relationship between pupil, parent and the school. We constantly strive to strengthen these links as they lie at the core of our desire to provide a personalised working environment that helps every pupil achieve their potential. An important aspect of our personalised approach to learning is the tutor. Uniquely, all of our tutors are trained in emotional support for young people and bring to the pupil the personal touch needed to help them fulfil their potential.
The Form Tutor is a crucial element in the pastoral support programme. Tutor group assemblies, charity work programmes and inter-form competitions all help to cement friendships, while larger school assemblies and the Religious Enquiry programme, using the widely respected Hampshire syllabus, all communicate the school's ethos and concern for spiritual development.
Three days a week there is a review period in which pupils meet with their tutor. The tutor uses this time to help individual and small groups of pupils with every aspect of their time at school; from academic progress and target grades to helping them achieve their aspirations through motivation and personal development. This is a unique feature of the school, which ensures that through mentoring, every child is known and every child supported.
