Year 11

Year Leader: Mr J Sambrook

As year leader for Year 11, I can truthfully say that at The Westgate we view these students as the most important individuals in school. All our work over the past four years is now channelled into developing these students and preparing them for the next stage in their education. We discuss their plans and with the help of the professionsals from the Connections service we aim to give them the motivation to achieve their full potential.

A great deal of help and advice is availbable through out this stressful but rewarding year, but this will not be an easy nine months for them. Hard work though does pay off and our students life chances are considerably enhanced. My advice is work hard, meet deadlines and listen to all advice that is offered.

We really do want to see smiling, happy faces on results day in August and to enjoy celebrating success through the Prom and Leaver assemblies. Good luck , we are with you through this journey.

What are they going to study?

All pupils will continue their second year of their GCSE courses and have an individual timetable. Extra curricular revision classes will be running and some pupils may well have extra lessons in English, Mathematics and Science dependant on teacher assessment and performance.

What will be the challenges for the year?

This last year in school is of vital importance to all pupils. External examination results will determine future career goals and aspirations for further education. Meeting their coursework deadlines along with continued revision, subject demands and career decisions will bring personal pressures which will only be alleviated with thorough organisation of your time.

Decisions regarding the next two years will have to be made and any relevant applications and career interviews completed. Everyone will need to assemble a Personal Portfolio to show either employers or college lecturers at interview. It will be essential that they attend college forums (where details of apprenticeships, forces careers etc will be available) and college open evenings in order to make the correct decisions for them.
