Penny Catchpole, Chair
Penny has been a governor at The Westgate since 2010, initially as a parent Governor and currently as a co-opted Governor. Her three children all attended The Westgate and all have now graduated from university.
Penny has lived all over the UK and settled in Winchester in 2001. She ran her own legal practice for 10 years and then spent nearly 6 years working in Children's Services at Hampshire County Council. Penny is a member of the Curriculum committee having been a past Chair.
Ann Stanhope, Vice Chair of Resources
Ann has been a governor at The Westgate since 2012. She was originally elected as a parent governor and became an appointed Local Authority governor in 2016. She has two daughters; one at university and the other at Peter Symonds college.
Ann attended The Westgate back in the 1970s, when it first became a comprehensive school. She subsequently graduated in physics and worked for many years in the semiconductor industry. For the past thirteen years Ann has worked from home as a technical editor and writer. Ann has been a member and past chair of the Curriculum Committee but currently sits on the Resources Committee.
Angela Ryde - Weller, Chair of the Curriculum Committee
Angela has been a governor at The Westgate since 2006, initially as a Community Governor and currently as a co-opted Governor. She is Chair of the Curriculum Committee. She has lived in Winchester for over 30 years.
Angela graduated with a degree in Engineering Science from the University of Warwick and then started her career doing engineering research initially at Warwick and then as a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, working on a variety of projects in the fields of noise and vibration and fluid mechanics. Her career then diversified into Arts Event Management but returned to the sciences when she became Education Manager at Intech, the hands-on science centre and planetarium recently renamed The Winchester Science Centre. She retired from employment 3 years ago.She has 2 grown up children, her daughter is a strategic project manager with GSK and her son is a lawyer, and has 4 grandchildren.
Chris Sermon - Chair of the Resources Committee
Chris has been a governor at The Westgate School since 2014, initially as a parent Governor and currently as a co-opted Governor; having previously served for eight years as parent governor at Western Primary School. He became Chair of the Resources Committee in 2018.
Chris is a Chartered Accountant working in London; specialising in financial regulation and customer protection. Born and brought up in Winchester, Chris trained initially in London (including a year at the Bank of England) moved to Hungary for five years, then worked throughout Central and Eastern Europe before settling down back in Winchester.
He has two children, both of whom have now left The Westgate and are currently studying for A-levels.
