Pupils have the opportunity to take part a full and varied extra-curricular calendar including Deep Learning Days, curriculum visits and field work. All pupils are invited to be part of activities and field work that enriches our curriculum. Where an activity requires pupils to go off-site or stay beyond the school day, we will ask that you complete a consent form before your son/daughter can participate. Some activities are optional and require payment which is organised through the school’s office. In advance of any event, you will receive a letter requesting permission as well as payment if required. It is vital that your son/daughter’s medical form is kept up-to-date and that you do inform the school office if any of your contact details change.
In September 2013, The Westgate proudly launched its new House System.
Pupils will have the opportunity to take part in a range of events, working with older and younger pupils, competing for House Points and celebrating team spirit. Events include sports days, music competitions and drama events. Special days of working together with different year groups. At the end of each term we celebrate pupils’ involvement and contribution to our school community through their participation as a member of a House in a whole school assembly full of music, celebration and fun. In addition to the extra-curricular opportunities, your son/daughter will also be linked to a House Leader who works closely with the Year Leader and Tutors to support him/her during their journey at our school.
This system allows The Westgate School's sense of community to blossom by creating more opportunities for pupils to work together and help each other. That might be in competitions but also in peer support groups, fostering relationships between all our pupils and enabling them to work with a wide range of people across all the year groups. There will be scope for activities, clubs and competitions in all subjects - hopefully there will be something to excite and engage every single pupil!

The achievements of Air house last year were fantastic and I believe that pride in our house, teamwork and a passion to succeed will lead us to continued success in the coming year. The key to success in any organisation are the people within it.
I'm Miss Atkinson and it's a pleasure to be the new leader for Earth House. I've been teaching PE and Geography here for three years now, so I am very excited to have a new challenge, and to have the opportunity to lead Earth House to their upcoming victory! My vision as houseleader is to not only win the House Cup, but for every single pupil in Earth to enjoy being part of our team, and to love being involved in as many different events as possible. My promise, is that I will be relentless. I will be relentless in supporting Team Earth in each of the different events, whether they are sport, art, music, maths, baking or any other of the amazing events we have coming up.
I will also be relentless in supporting pupils, and doing my very best to ensure they enjoy school life here at The Westgate School. We have a fantastic group of tutors, prefects and house captains, and I can't wait to see all of the successes Earth House will have throughout the year. Please also know that if any of you ever have any questions, worries or concerns, you are more than welcome to come and find me, where I will do my very best to help.
EARTH - "To The Ends Of The Earth!"
FIRE - "Burning Desire To Succeed!"
It is my job to ensure that every pupil has enthusiasm and craves the opportunity to contribute to Fire House! Within Fire I will ensure that there is a culture where we work together in order to achieve, where pupils can take on leadership opportunities, and each tutor can create their own learning environment. Furthermore I look forward to seeing the support that Fire give to each other during the multiple house events throughout the year. The key to success in any team is that there are multiple leaders; I will be looking for my tutor House Captains and pupil House leader to inspire those around them. It is really important that all pupils are aware that if they have any questions, or wish to talk to me at any time, then please come and find me, I will be happy to help you in any way that I can! I look forward to working with you all and I hope that we all embody the Fire House motto "Burning Desire To Succeed!"
My name is Mr Kinnaird and it is a pleasure to be the leader of Fire House. This will be my fifth year at The Westgate School where I teach both PE and Maths, as well as running many extra-curricular teams. I am thrilled to have such a hardworking and passionate group of pupils and tutors in Fire House; I look forward to working together with every member of Fire. Last year Fire narrowly missed out on the House Cup, reflecting all the hard work and determination shown by the pupils and staff over the school year; this year's challenge is to win back the trophy!
I am always impressed by the support and encouragement our pupils give each other to enable everyone to contribute and utilise their strengths. This ethos of team work and working together is something we value enormously at the Westgate School and is key to a successful House team.
I look forward to working with my team of Water House captains, pupil House Leaders and every single one of the pupils just like our Water House motto of 'Together, our drops make an ocean.'
