Rotherly Day Nursery

Welcome to the Rotherly Day Nursery located on the grounds of the The Westgate School.  We aim to develop and nurture the Characteristics of Effective Learning in all our children. These characteristics are: playing and exploring, active learning, creating and, thinking critically; together they enable children to become happy and effective learners. Our specialist Early Years Foundation Stage Leader oversees provision in both our primary phase and the Nursery ensuring continuity for all children who progress through this route as well as from other settings.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum Provision

Children are nurtured within a play-based curriculum which is broad, planned and balanced using indoors and outdoors spaces with both adult led and child-initiated learning. The play is enjoyable, devised to promote thinking and problem solving, improve language competence and encourages the exploration and investigation of materials.

Mrs Reynolds is our Early Years Foundation Stage Leader and oversees Early Years provision for all our pupils.  Mrs Reynolds is a very experienced Early Years teacher who is also a Lead Practitioner in the Early Years for Hampshire. Colleagues work together to develop teaching, learning and the environment and ensure the highest quality provision and the best possible start for Rotherly nursery pupils, in readiness for Year R .

We have a strong partnership with primary schools and we work closely to provide them with the strongest possible start in their learning for future success and happiness.

Our Story...

We first opened our doors in September 1991. The nursery was originally set up in the same house as The Westgate School Boarding School.  Rotherly House was originally built in the early 1900s.  And we enjoyed the surroundings for 22 years. Rotherly Day Nursery started life with just 15 children a day. As time passed by the need for childcare grew and addition of Rotherly Cottage to the nursery environment, so did we!

We have seen many families grow with us and we are now seeing some of those children from days of the past bring their children to Rotherly to continue their journey with us too! Exciting times came with our purpose built nursery in October 2013.

Our aims, vision and values...

  • A nurturing, safe and caring environment where the happiness and well-being of each child is paramount.

  • A high quality, fun play-based curriculum which builds on children's needs and interests.

  • Fostering close partnerships through effective communication with families to ensure the best outcome for each child.

  • To learn and grow both indoors and outdoors within family groupings in an adaptable environment, to inspire a love of learning that facilities well rounded development.
