The Westgate School is delighted to announce their exceptional educational outcomes have been recognised by SSAT (The Schools, Students and Teachers Network) in the 2025 Educational Outcomes Awards. This prestigious award highlights The Westgate School as one of the highest performing secondary schools in the country, based on 2024 performance data and progress scores.

The Westgate School has been acknowledged for being in the top 10% of schools nationally for student progress and in the top 10% of non-selective schools for student attainment nationally in the 2024 GCSE exams.

The SSAT Educational Outcomes database compares all state-funded schools in England. To be recognised with an Educational Outcomes Award is a significant achievement and a testament to the work of the whole school community.

Headteacher of The Westgate School, Mrs Fae Dean, commented:

We are extremely proud to be presented with these national recognition awards from SSAT.  The school’s educational outcomes reflect the dedication and hard work of our pupils and colleagues, who are committed to providing an exceptional, comprehensive education.  The awards are evidence of our whole school community living up to our motto of ‘Learning together, achieving excellence’”.

The Westgate School has consistently ranked at the top of performance tables in Hampshire for Progress 8.  In 2024, the school gained an impressive score well above the national average, indicating that pupils at the school achieve nearly a whole GCSE grade higher across their top 8 subjects compared to their peers nationwide.

In 2024, 86.5% of Westgate’s pupils achieved a Grade 4 or above in English and Maths, while 11% of all GCSE grades were a grade 9, more than double the national average of 5%.  Notably, three pupils achieved 10 Grade 9s each, a distinction shared by only 545 pupils nationwide.

These accomplishments are even more impressive as The Westgate School has one of the highest percentage of pupils entering the EBacc (academic curriculum) among all schools represented in the Hampshire school tables.  This ensures pupils access a broad and balanced education at GCSE level, keeping their options open for further study and future careers.

Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT said:

Congratulations to The Westgate School on winning two SSAT Educational Outcomes Awards. This success is down to the superb learning and teaching, outstanding support and inspirational leadership of staff. You have made a huge difference to the lives of the young people in your school. Thank you.”
