At The Westgate School, collaboration sits at the heart of our approach to education. We believe that learning flourishes when schools, professionals, and communities work together, and we are proud to maintain a wide network of partnerships that enrich opportunities for both pupils and colleagues. These relationships help extend learning beyond the classroom, encourage innovation, and strengthen our shared commitment to lifelong learning.

Our colleagues lead and facilitate a broad range of collaborative networks and training opportunities designed to support professional growth and enhance the quality of education across all phases of the school. Partnerships include:

  • Designated safeguarding lead network: The DSL network is a confidential space where safeguarding leads share updates, expertise, and practical support. Regular meetings keep DSLs informed about new legislation, local guidance, and emerging safeguarding issues, helping schools protect vulnerable learners more effectively. The group offers collaborative problem-solving, shared resources, and input from external specialists, creating a consistent and supportive approach to complex safeguarding across settings.

  • Emergency first aider in the workplace and emergency paediatric first aid: Ensuring colleagues are trained and confident in essential first-aid skills.

  • Executive and national professional qualification (NPQ) coaching: NPQ coaching gives leaders personalised support to apply their learning confidently and make real, practical improvements in their schools.

  • Governance support & collaboration agreements: Governance support gives governors clear training and guidance to meet their duties and strengthen school performance, while collaboration agreements formalise partnerships so schools can share resources, work jointly, and support each other more effectively.

  • Leadership coaching & mentoring: Leadership coaching and mentoring give leaders personalised support to build confidence, strengthen strategic thinking, and navigate complex challenges, while learning from experienced professionals who offer practical insight and long-term perspective.

  • Leading & developing an All-Through School: Sharing best practice across primary and secondary phases.

  • SENDCo Network: The SENDCo network brings coordinators together to share strategies, discuss case studies, and stay updated on policy so pupils with additional needs receive the best support possible. It also reduces isolation by fostering collaboration and inviting external specialists to strengthen inclusive practice across schools.

  • School self-evaluation activities: Peer-review at The Westgate School brings leaders together to reflect honestly on their provision, identify strengths, and recognise areas for improvement as part of the school’s ongoing quality-assurance cycle. Welcoming colleagues from other settings strengthens this process, creating a collaborative learning community that supports continuous improvement and benefits all learners.

  • Subject Assessment Moderation (KS1–3): Subject assessment moderation keeps teacher judgments consistent and accurate by reviewing pupil work against shared standards and co-constructing clear assessment criteria. It also strengthens professional knowledge, giving teachers a chance to deepen curriculum understanding, share best practice, and build confidence in delivering high-quality teaching and learning.

  • Subject Specialist Curriculum Support (Year R–11): Our expert team of Subject Leaders and Co-ordinators work across all phases of our school to ensure a coherent curriculum with golden threads running across all five key stages.

  • Winchester Schools Training Alliance: We are proud to be part a partnership that brings together schools across the city to train the next generation of teachers.

Our partnerships reflect our belief that education is strongest when it is part of a community of practice. By working closely with external organisations, specialist networks, and fellow schools, we continue to build a vibrant learning community that supports every pupil and every colleague to thrive.
