At this time of year, the Department for Education publishes data on schools' GCSE performance. The results cover a range of measures including progress across eight standardised qualifications, attainment in eight qualifications and the percentage of students staying in education or going into employment after Key Stage 4.

Another measure is the percentage of pupils achieving a grade 5 or above in English and maths. In this, as with all the other measures, The Westgate School has done exceptionally well, achieving 70.3%, which is the highest in result in Winchester, and second only to Thornden School across all of Hampshire's state schools. And, as we shared in the news before half term, our Attainment 8 score taken from the broad range of academic subjects on offer is just 0.1% off the top spot.

These outstanding results are a testament to the hard work of the pupils and their parents/carers in supporting them, as well as to our fantastic colleagues.
